The bear bowl
Sometimes in life we make connections to people we will never meet. Take this bear bowl for example. In our house there was some healthy debate as to the purpose of this piece. One school of thought had it as a soap dish, with the mouth as a place to stuff a washcloth. Another school of thought had it as a kids cereal bowl, with a bit of fun already built in. It was manufactured in Japan in 1985, and after some pretty exhaustive searching, we could not find anything similar as a reference. That was in our house....
There was another house far away that was also doing some exhaustive searching for similar bowls. However, this household not only knew it's purpose, but had first hand experience with it!
I could share their side of the story, but I think it's best to hear it directly. This story reminds us that when we find homes for the items we sell, we are connected to those people, and sometimes that seemingly random find can make a positive impact down the road.
Check out the other side of the story here:

ReplyDeleteI have had quite a few people contact me in hopes I have an "inside connection"! Alas, I do not. I haven't seen another one nor know where to find them. It seems they were a short production run but have a very strong appeal. If anyone comes across one of these pieces, I'd love to hear about it!
ReplyDeleteAww... I just unpacked all my childhood stuff my mom saved for me and found my Feed the Bear Bowl! He is orange and still in pretty good shape. He has some chips around his mouth from my feeding him a lot. Haha. I searched for more of them and found this post. I'm glad to read of others' good memories of these bowls. Maybe they'll make a comeback!
ReplyDeleteOrange one huh? 😍 Now I gotta find that. I’ve had a yellow one all my life cause it was my brothers before me. Now I have pink, blue, brown and my og yellow.
